Samantha, Samantha by ~crabbycatz:iconcrabbycatz:

"Samantha, Samantha!"
by, crabbycatz

In a forest under the light,
Birds of air all take flight,
Bees go buzzing round n’ round,
Insects inch all over the ground.

And I was spying in the grove,
Beyond the hidden hills and coves,
On a little man in green,
A gnome I saw, that’s what I’d seen!

Near his stubby hut in the clearing,
The tiny gnome was steadily nearing,
Picking herbs for dinner tea,
Chamomile and potpourri.

He looked both ways and crossed the hill,
The air sweet-smelling of honey and dill,
He sauntered over the earthen floor,
And disappeared behind his door.

The pleasant minutes steadily passed,
The smell of apple pie surpassed,
The baking gnome came out again,
Into land beside the glen.

He set down his crystal teacups,
Among the critters, squirrels and peacocks,
And sliced up his apple pie,
Munched on crumpets milled with rye.

His red, felt cap blew off his head,
At this sight he frowned with dread,
So into his hut he trudged once more,
He chose from hats you would adore!

So when he did the moment was right,
To go snatch pie without a fight,
“A slice,” I said, “just one to go,
The little gnome will never know.”

Oh! How splendid that tart had tasted!
Not one crumb was to be wasted.
Oh! Sweet pleasure! I smiled wide,
But here he was coming! I had to hide.

An hour more he sipped his tea,
While I twiddled my thumbs and leaned on a tree,
Before I knew it the picnic was gone,
The gnome picked his party up off the lawn.

Then he whistled a tune I had never heard ‘fore,
And like something out of that old folklore,
A unicorn leaped up out of the bramble,
Her strong and sinuous legs in an amble.

“Samantha! Samantha!” he cried with glee,
And hopped on Samantha with his steady knee,
“Charge!” he laughed as the white horse had reared,
And before them a path had already cleared.

My eyes were dazzled as away they flew,
And at that moment I clearly knew,
That no matter how far you travel and roam,
The best creature you’ll find will be the gnome.
